  3. Recycling of automobile-related metals

TOYOKIN pursues ever better recycling of metallic resources, and many of our metallic resources is “automobile”-related since major clients are Toyota Motor Corporation and its affiliated companies.

  1. Recycling of metals produced when “manufacturing” an automobile
  2. Recycling of metals produced when “disusing” an automobile

Processing of “cut chips” produced in the process of manufacturing an automobile

"Component parts of an automobile such as fenders that cover body and tires are produced by pressing a large iron plate. The process inevitably produces metal chips called “cut chips.”
TOYOKIN collects and processes those chips and delivers them as feedstock to casting/steel manufacturers."

The world’s first vacuum plant for separation of steel plate and zinc

"“Galvanized steel plate” that is rust-prevention treated iron plate is often used for inner and outer plates to be the body of an automobile.
“Galvanized steel plate” is also collected as a kind of cut chips. But zinc-containing steel is not good raw material for melting and separation of steel and zinc was a problem to be solved."

"And finally “vacuum plant” was completed by the joint development with Toyota Motor Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.
The plant is the world’ first dezincification machine for recycling of galvanized steed plate and started running at the head factory of TOYOKIN in 1993."

This vacuum plant enables the following at the same time;

  • Recycles steel chips into good raw material for melting
  • Recovers unoxidized metallic zinc as residual product

"As just described, recycling technologies need to be improved as new materials appear.
TOYOKIN pursues better methods of recycling resources more efficiently to support development of both manufacturing and recycling-based society."

Recycling of disused vehicles

"We acquired License for Dismantling Operations and License for Shredding and Sorting Operations when End-of-Life Vehicles Recycling Law was put into effect.
We appropriately process disused vehicles collected from general metallic resources markets and dealers of Toyota group."

Preprocessing

Appropriate processing of dismantling of disused vehicles such as recovering fluorocarbons, draining oil and gasoline, and removing air-bags are operated.

We carry out operations step-by-step in conformity to End-of-Life Vehicles Recycling Law.

Fuel is drained, battery is taken out, and tires are taken off.

Air-bags are inflated in the car or demounted.

After pressed, vehicles are shredded and sorted to be resources for recycling at Tsutsumi Plant.

Waste Engine Cooling Water (LLC) Microorganism Treatment Plant

"We put the joint research with Toyota Central R&D Labs and Meidensha Corporation into practical use, and succeeded the development of a plant where engine cooling water (LLC) is microbially treated. This system is highly evaluated by Aichi Prefecture and Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry and received “Award for Excellence” of Aichi Environmental Award in 2006.
The plant is now in operation at Fujioka Plant and utilized for recycling of automobiles."

Shredding

Pressed vehicles are transported to a plant to be shredded by a shredder machine.

"After shredded, scraps are sorted into iron scraps, non-ferrous metal scraps, dust, etc. by machines such as a magnetic sorter.
Iron scrap is transported to steel manufacturers and non-ferrous metal scrap is reused as feedstock. Shredder dust is appropriately processed via automobile manufacturers."
